The Peugeot 3008, which will be launched in September, will be the first model from the manufacturer to be equipped with the "Panorama i-Cockpit," an evolution of the simple "i-Cockpit" that has been in use for more than 10 years. This multifunctional display will then gradually find its way into other electrically powered vehicle models.

The new generation of the i-Cockpit features a 21-inch (53.3 cm) curved high-definition panoramic screen that appears to float above the dashboard thanks to a sophisticated mechanical suspension, a new compact steering wheel and so-called i-Toggles (controls).

According to the wording of Peugeot's marketing department, the i-Cockpit is intended to bring about "instinctive, safe driving and a spacious design to feel comfortable on board." To that end, the company has given the vehicle some new connected services.

The ambition of Peugeot's teams is to reinvent fundamental elements to make the new Peugeot Panorama i-Cockpit a unique offering on the market. It is designed to offer drivers and passengers even more pleasure, safety and comfort.

Previous Peugeot i-Cockpit models, which have sold nearly 10 million units, were already equipped with various electronic technologies, including: a digital instrument cluster, wireless connectivity, voice control, 3D effects, customizable "i-Toggles" – which are freely assignable function keys on a touch screen. Now Peugeot is taking the next step with the new Panorama i-Cockpit.

Among other things, the developers have integrated the display content of the head-up display into the curved HD panorama screen, which is already positioned quite high up. This consists of a single high-resolution 21-inch panel that extends from the left edge of the dashboard to the center console. This panoramic screen is attached with a rear foot that is not visible from the passenger compartment, so it looks as if it is floating above the dashboard. The floating effect is further emphasized by the LED ambient lighting below the screen.

The panoramic screen is ergonomically positioned and slightly curved toward the driver, while remaining accessible to the passenger on the right side. This digital screen combines two important functions of the Peugeot i-Cockpit:

– On the left side of the panoramic screen, the instrument cluster above the comparatively small steering wheel displays all information relevant to driving (including speed, power meter, driving aids, energy consumption).

– On the right side of the panoramic screen, in the center of the dashboard, is the touchscreen, which is accessible to both the driver and the front passenger. It can be used to control heating/air conditioning, navigation, media and connectivity systems.

In the center of the dashboard are the i-Toggles, fully customizable touch-sensitive controls that can be programmed to provide quick access to the user's 10 most-used functions: calling a contact, starting navigation to a frequently used destination, tuning the radio to a favorite station, setting the ideal temperature for the climate control system.

The controls on the redesigned compact steering wheel are haptic to ensure optimal user ergonomics: they automatically detect the driver's and front passenger's fingers, but are only activated when pressed to avoid incorrect actions.
