Michiganders will have one less weekday option to travel to and from Chicago for a period this summer as Amtrak prepares to begin construction along one of its routes.
Beginning July 31, Amtrak will be suspending its Monday through Thursday service for Wolverine Trains 350 and 353, which run between Pontiac and Chicago. Those trains will only operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the two-month project, which is expected to wrap-up the first week of October.
The temporary suspensions are a result of infrastructure improvements being made by Amtrak and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The effected trains pass through Michigan cities including New Buffalo, Niles, Dowagiac, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Albion, Jackson, Ann Arbor and Dearborn.
During the temporary suspension of specified Wolverine lines, Blue Water Trains 364 and 365 will operate normally and also serve Wolverine stations in southwestern Michigan. Trains 351, 352, 354 and 355 will operate normally.
